Tom has experience in patent law with well over a decade spent in private practice serving multiple clients and also well over a decade spent serving as in-house patent counsel in Fortune 100 companies.

His experience includes:

  • drafting and prosecuting hundreds of patent applications;
  • managing U.S. and foreign patent attorneys;
  • participating in patent acquisition, patent licensing, and patent litigation; and
  • providing intellectual property advice to corporate officers, engineers and teams, and technical standards body members.

Tom’s patent law experiences have covered a wide variety of hardware, software, and mechanical innovations.

Technical Experience

Hardware: Tom has experience patenting combined hardware and software technologies used in wireless modems and communication systems, wired and wireless communication networks, satellite receivers, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, location and proximity sensing, motion sensing, optical devices and digital cameras, tracking systems, biometric sensors, land and air autonomous vehicles, graphical processing units, display devices, printing devices, implantable medical devices, patient monitoring devices, memory and data storage devices, robotics, and semiconductor fabrication and other automated manufacturing systems.

Software: Tom has further experience patenting software technologies used in operating systems, gaming systems, computer user applications, web browsers, integrated circuit design layout tools, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cryptography.

Mechanical: Tom also has experience patenting mechanical technologies used in semiconductor fabrication machines, integrated circuit packaging, hard drive storage devices, tape media storage devices, optical media storage devices, and surgical equipment.
